We met Vanessa when we became neighbours in Church Lane, Grayshott for 19 years, and remained friends ever since that first meeting which was 26 years ago! The day we moved in, Douglas and Vanessa were the first people to come and introduce themselves, being so friendly and kind. We used to love being invited to their New Year 's Eve Parties every year with the homemade punch and wonderful food! Vanessa and I used to enjoy going to the garden centres and nurseries buying beautiful garden plants for all her pots around the outside of the house, which always looked so colourful. One of her favourite roses was a climber called 'Masquerade' whose flowers start off yellow, change to pink, and then red with age, and has the three different shades all showing at the same time! it was her dad's favourite rose too. Mind you, Vanessa had lots of roses around the garden and she knew the names of all of them! She loved her garden. Rest in Peace Vanessa and hope you are together with Douglas, your parents, all your dogs, and lots of plants for you to enjoy!

First as a colleague and then as a friend to myself and my Mother, I have known Vanessa for half my life and will miss our lovely long chats. I hadn't known her long when my father died (also of a brain tumour) and despite my only having worked with her for a short while she very kindly came to his funeral - a generous act of a caring person. Although our paths didn't cross again work wise it was wonderful to reconnect in later years and finally to move to the same village. Long conversations on the phone and meet ups for coffee made my mother and I feel so welcomed. A shared love of dogs, gardens and painting continued our much valued friendship. Rest in peace.
