Memories of Vanessa by Rosemary Davies

I was born in Hinchley Drive in Sept 1937 so 5 months after Vanessa.  I did not realise she was born in London but must have moved soon after. I was always at her house, the cats and kittens and Pekineses were a big attraction.  We loved dressing up and pretending to be Dr's and nurses etc.  He mum gave her old clothes and shoes of hers and also make up.  I had nothing like that at my home at all.  Also, I was friends with Wendy and Susan.  Because it was war time, our parents swapped food that was rationed and very scarce.  Her dad used to walk past our house with his butterfly net going to the woods nearby.  I lost touch when I went to boarding school.  I remember going to her hen party in London.  It took place in a pizza restaurant.  I was unfamiliar with the food and do not like cheese.  I went to her wedding and gave her some black and white photos I took fairly recently.  I remember the reception was in her mums garden.  My parents and I used to visit her mother when she was working in a rather posh dress shop in Guildford. I caught up with her when I found she visited her friend Ann in Hampton and she visited me once in Hampton Hill and took me and An  to the walled garden in Sunbury.  A great friend so kind and caring.  I will miss her.
